Understand the Connections Between Different Cultures

Success in today’s global community requires understanding and sensitivity to the connections between different cultures and people. Thousands of organizations have international operations, and knowing how local and global communities interact is vital for success in a multicultural world.

Looking at critical issues through a global lens can prepare you for work in international business, or for a career in international or intercultural studies. It will also expand your view on local issues, giving you a well-rounded and diverse perspective.

This certificate program will provide you with a foundational understanding of current global issues, world history, and cultures. You may choose to continue your studies in areas such as international relations, conflict resolution, African-American studies, and other areas.

The global and intercultural studies certificate program is for students who:

  • Want to develop skills in international and intercultural research
  • Want to increase knowledge of multicultural communication and history
  • Plan to transfer to a four-year college or university for further study in international or intercultural relations and related fields

When you complete this program, you will know how to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the interrelationships between cultures

Regardless of your financial situation, it is so important to first complete the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA allows us to offer you the greatest possible amount of financial aid. Once your FAFSA is complete, be sure to apply for scholarships from the Chesapeake College Foundation. One application opens up the door to hundreds of potential scholarships.

    Placement & Transcripts

We now offer many ways to “place” into courses. These include GPA, high school standardized testing and the ACCUPLACER placement exam. Find out if you need to schedule placement testing (exemptions listed here). If so, please don’t worry! We want you to succeed, and together we can get you positioned for achieving your goals. Contact [email protected] to get a testing slip. Then, request that your high school send your official transcript to the Chesapeake College Registration office. In the meantime, you may use an unofficial transcript to work with an Academic Advisor.
