The Student Emergency Fund at Chesapeake College is here to support students facing unexpected, short-term financial challenges that could jeopardize their education. Our goal is to help you continue your studies and successfully complete your coursework. To request assistance, simply fill out the Student Emergency Fund application below. Each request is carefully reviewed to ensure that students receive the resources they need to succeed. All applications are considered on a case-by-case basis, following the guidelines outlined below.

To be eligible for the Student Emergency Fund, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled at Chesapeake College and have successfully completed at least six (6) credits.
  • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing.
  • Demonstrate financial hardship due to an emergency situation or unanticipated circumstances that threaten your ability to continue your studies.
  • Explore and utilize other available funding and support options through Chesapeake College as appropriate.

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to:

  • Temporary housing or utility costs due to homelessness or housing insecurity.
  • Emergency medical, dental, or mental health expenses not covered by insurance.
  • Replacement of essential personal belongings lost due to fire, theft, or natural disaster not covered by insurance.
  • Temporary support costs for students in dangerous situations due to threats or acts of violence.
  • Emergency dependent-related expenses such as childcare.

The fund does not cover:

  • Tuition, fees, books, or other standard educational expenses.
  • Non-essential utilities, household items, or furniture not related to damage or theft.
  • Costs related to optional programs, entertainment, recreation, or non-emergency travel.
  • Parking tickets or legal fees.

Priority for funding will be given based on:

  • The urgency of the situation.
  • The student’s overall financial situation and level of hardship.
  • Whether the student has already utilized other available resources or support.
