WORLD LANGUAGES
THE COMMUNITY INTERPRETER® INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM I & II
These courses prepare students to facilitate meaningful communication between
service providers and Limited English Proficient (LMP) members of the community.
Topics include: ethics and conduct, terminology, positioning, modes of interpreting,
steps for sight translation, intervention strategies, and cultural mediation.
Students must register for both CEX 812 & CEX 813. Financial assistance may
be available through the Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship. Contact Lois

COMMUNITY SPANISH
This course is designed to teach students to communicate in Spanish. Topics include:
vowel sounds, consonant sounds, declarative, interrogative and exclamatory
structures and basic vocabulary. Course materials included.

SPANISH FOR REQUESTING PERSONAL INFO AND DATA
This continuing education course is designed to provide immediate access to
functional language skills for non-Spanish speaking individuals who may need
to acquire information and data from Spanish speakers. Instruction will focus on
phonetic encoding to address the most important Spanish commands, questions
and phrases pertinent to daily interactions. Topics include one-way communication
in order to secure personal information and data from Spanish speakers. Course
materials provided.

SPANISH FOR SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS & TEACHERS
This continuing education course is designed for administrators and teachers in
schools with Spanish-speaking students in attendance. The course will provide
the ability to communicate more effectively and to overcome language barriers
with these students and their families. Topics include basic conversational phrases;
conversing in the classroom; communicating rules and behavior; responding
to medical emergencies, greeting parents and visitors, engaging in security
measures, and survival phrases for parent-teacher conferences. Course materials

grammar concepts for the student. Topics include: sentence construction, rules of

BASIC SPANISH II
In this continuing education course students will learn to develop basic grammar
concepts and apply them during conversations. Topics include: review of the key
concepts learned in Basic Spanish I, add possessive adjectives, interrogatory words,
irregular verbs and more. Students will be able to engage in a simple Spanish
conversation using basic dialogue skills. Course materials provided.

BASIC SPANISH CONVERSATIONAL
This continuing education course is designed to enable students to apply
Spanish concepts they have learned during beginning and intermediate Spanish.
Topics include situation conversations such as ordering food, reserving hotel
rooms, purchasing airline tickets and more. This course is a great refresher for
intermediate students who want to practice their Spanish-speaking skills. Course
materials provided.

YOUTH
SAFESITTER@ ESSENTIALS W/CPR
This course is designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Topics include learning how to prevent and manage unsafe situations, learning and practicing first aid & rescue techniques, and role playing life and business skills. Handbook & Safe Sitter certificate included.
There are no face-to-face meetings. All classes facilitated via Zoom. You will need access to a computer. Students must provide an email address. Once registered, email elafrankie@chesapeake.edu
