Administrative Medical Assistant
Train to help manage medical offices. Coordinate the administrative activities of a medical office including patient registration, scheduling appointments, processing communications, medical billing and entering data into Electronic Health Records systems. This 96-hour training program combines theory and practical instruction, including two optional review sessions to help students prepare for their CMAA National Certification exam. CMAA National Certification exam fee, BLS Healthcare Provider CPR and course completion certificate are included. Prior approval from program coordinator required to register.
Classes start in February and October. Here's how to get started:
PREREQUISITES: College Placement Test for Reading Comprehension and Arithmetic, High School (or equivalent) Graduate, Medical Terminology: A Word Association Approach. Computer with webcam and strong internet connection required for successful completion. Strong technology skills required.

BLS HEALTHCARE PROVIDER
American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification is included for all Administrative Medical Assistant students. The course is taught according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association.

INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT: ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Karen Callahan has been with Chesapeake College since 2000. The Clinical Informatics Manager at Choptank Community Health System, she has a master’s degree in Health Informatics & Information Management, a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management, an associate’s degree in Allied Health/Nursing and an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences. She is also a certified Registered Health Information Administrator and Professional Coder. Karen has a husband of 36 years, two adult children, and two dogs.
