Wye Mills, MD – Chesapeake College is excited to introduce its new “UAS (Drone) FAA Remote Pilot” course, designed to prepare students for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Part 107 certification exam. Led by skilled instructor Suzann Zdunowski, this course equips participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to obtain their commercial drone pilot license.

“Our course is specifically tailored to help students succeed in the FAA’s Part 107 certification exam,” said Suzann Zdunowski. “Successful students receive a course completion certificate from Chesapeake College and are prepared to schedule their Part 107 FAA license test. Additionally, participants will earn an FAA TRUST recreational certificate during the course, further enhancing their credentials.”

This course is part of Chesapeake College’s PACE Computer and Technology program, which emphasizes providing students with industry-recognized certifications, particularly in STEM fields. The UAS (Drone) FAA Remote Pilot course has received program approval from the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems-Collegiate Training Initiative (UAS-CTI) due to its comprehensive preparation for the Part 107 certification.

Scholarship and Incentive Opportunities for Drone Training

Chesapeake College offers scholarship opportunities for qualifying students interested in drone training, including potential funding through the Workforce Investment Board (WIB). These opportunities make it easier for students to gain skills that are highly valuable across various industries. A drone pilot license can be a significant asset in fields such as home inspection, construction, real estate, agriculture, and environmental science, all of which are programs also offered at Chesapeake College.

Additionally, students who take and complete both the UAS (Drone) FAA Remote Pilot course and the Licensure Prep for Home Inspector Certification course beginning September 3, may qualify for a special reimbursement, subject to eligibility requirements. This incentive is part of the college’s commitment to making industry-recognized certifications accessible and affordable.

Suzann Zdunowski, who leads this initiative, is one of only 30,935 women remote pilots in the United States, and among just 598 in Maryland. Suzann holds certifications in Starting a Drone Business, Basic Flight Training and has her Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot License from the FAA. Her role at Chesapeake College is a significant asset, especially for women aspiring to break into this growing field.
