At Chesapeake College’s Academic Support Center (ASC), we’re committed to helping students achieve academic success through personalized tutoring. Located in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) on the Wye Mills campus and the Multi-Service Center (MSC) in Cambridge, the ASC provides free tutoring in various subjects. Our services are available in-person and online, offering flexible options to fit your schedule.
Who Are Our Tutors?

Our tutors include full-time and part-time staff, current students, and retired educators, all committed to helping you succeed academically. Their varied backgrounds and worldviews ensure that every student can find a tutor they connect with, creating a meaningful and personalized learning experience.
How the ASC Can Help
The Academic Support Center offers personalized support for your classwork, assignments, study skills, and academic expectations. Most tutoring sessions are one-on-one, with science sessions often conducted in small groups. Writing, math, and other subjects are available in 50-minute appointments, both in-person and online.
Here’s what our tutors can help with:
- Research Assistance Guidance on finding and using resources.
- Assignment Clarification Helping you understand your assignments.
- Instructor Referrals Directing you to your instructor when needed.
- Campus Resources Connecting you with other student services.
- Academic Procedures Explaining college policies and grading.
- Feedback on Work Offering feedback before you submit assignments.
- Resource Recommendations Suggesting study tools and guides.
- Tech Support Assistance with basic tech tools.
- Tutor Matching Connecting you with the right tutor.
To make the most out of your tutoring session:
- Be Prepared: Bring your notes, textbooks, and assignment instructions. Having questions ready will help you make the most of the session.
- Set Goals: Know what you want to accomplish during the session—whether it’s mastering a concept or receiving feedback on an assignment.
- Respect Tutor Guidelines: Tutors won’t complete assignments for you, but they will guide you through the learning process and help you develop effective study techniques.
To ensure a productive experience, follow these guidelines:
- Canceling Appointments: Cancel appointments at least 24 hours in advance.
- Student Responsibilities: Be prepared, arrive on time, and actively participate in your tutoring session. Remember that academic success is a shared responsibility.
Tutors are here to guide your learning journey but cannot complete or correct assignments for you. They will help clarify concepts, offer feedback, and suggest resources to improve your understanding.
