Whether you’re transitioning from military service to civilian life, navigating the GI BillĀ® benefits, or seeking resources to enhance your academic experience, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

Here’s everything you need to know about our Veterans Services:

Chesapeake College is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to offer Veteran’s Educational Benefits for all our credit programs. To receive these benefits, you must be admitted as a credit student. Noncredit/continuing education programs do not qualify for veteran’s benefits. Please contact the Registration Office to discuss your VA Education Benefit eligibility.

VA Education Benefits by Chapters

IMPORTANT for Benefit Recipients

  • Benefits renewal is required each semester via the VA Enrollment Certification Request Form.
  • Ensure all paperwork is timely and accurate to avoid delays in benefit payments.
  • Benefits cover only courses required in your program as per your Academic Evaluation Report (AER).
  • Official Transcripts from other schools attended and from military training must be submitted to the Registrar for evaluation of transfer credits. We must receive these transcripts before the start of your 2nd semester or we will not be able to continue to certify you enrollment with the VA until we receive the transcripts.
  • Change in Academic Program or schedule revisions must be reported to Certifying Official to ensure that correct paperwork is submitted to VA. Failure to do so, may affect student payment from VA.
  • IMPORTANT: Students receiving MGIB-Active Duty Chapter 30 benefits, as well as those in Chapter 1606 and Chapter 1607, must verify their enrollment each month to receive payment for that month. This verification can be done either by using the VA’s Web Automated Verification of Enrollment or by using an automated telephone system (IVR) at 1-877-823-2378.
  • Regularly verify your enrollment each month if required to maintain benefit flow.

Additional Notes

  • Veterans with service-connected disabilities may be eligible for Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) benefits. Please call 1-800-827-1000 to speak with a VA Vocational and Employment counselor or 1-888-442-4551 to speak with a VA education benefits specialist.
  • Maryland National Guard members may qualify for a 50% tuition discount. Present a State Tuition Waiver Letter signed by your Unit Commander upon registration.
  • Active Duty Military must have courses approved through their Education Services Officer before enrolling. Students using Military Tuition Assistance (TA) must have their courses approved through their Education Services Officer. All Military TA must be requested and approved prior to the start date of the course. Students who enroll without prior approval may be liable for tuition costs, therefore it is recommended to receive approval before enrolling.

Chesapeake College is proud to support our veterans and military-connected students as they pursue their educational goals. Whether you’re interested in earning a degree, certificate, or transferring to a four-year institution, we’re here to help you succeed. Contact our Veterans Services office today to learn more about the resources and support available to you.
