Online Learning

At Chesapeake, choose where and when you take class

Online students meeting in the quad

Online (Full Semester 15 Weeks)

  • Meet with your instructor and classmates almost entirely online.
  • No career interruption, no commuting, and no fixed hours.
  • Access from anywhere via the internet!
  • Work on assignments at the time of day best for you.
  • Reach the same learning outcomes as on-campus courses.
  • Get the same credit as on-campus courses.
  • Learn from experienced, accessible, caring faculty
  • Courses meet national standards for quality!

Online courses work best for students who are:

  • Self-disciplined
  • Willing and able to put in the time every week to do the work
  • Comfortable with computer and internet skills
  • Able to read and write at a college level.
  • If you think your success in class depends on face-to-face interaction with your instructor and other students, online classes may not be your best choice.

Tips for online success:

  • Log in to work on the class 3-4 times/week, all semester.
  • Keep up with assignments.
  • Actively participate in online discussions and projects.
  • Have reliable access to the internet and required computer equipment.
  • Possess decent computer and internet use skills

Fast Track (8-Week Online)

Students at graduation

  • Complete the entire course in half a semester!
  • Do the entire course in 8 weeks, including final exam.
  • No coming to campus: access the course anytime through your internet connection.
  • The intense focus helps some students learn more effectively.
  • Do course work at the time of day best for you.
  • Reach the same learning outcomes and get the same credit as on-campus courses.
  • Learn from experienced, accessible, caring faculty.
  • Courses meet national standards for quality!

Fast Track courses work best for students who:

  • Possess a high degree of self discipline.
  • Have enough time to "double up" on their workload for the duration of the class.
  • Apply strong computer and Internet skills.
  • Read and write at a college level.

Tips for Fast Track success:

  • Take time enough to do the work. A Fast Track 8 week online course takes TWICE the time per week as a full semester class.
  • Log in to work on the class DAILY for eight weeks.
  • Keep up with assignments (even more important than in a regular online class).
  • Actively participate in online discussions and projects.
  • Apply your strong computer and internet use skills to completing class requirements.

Hybrid Student at graduation

  • “Best of both worlds” – in class personal attention and online flexibility.
  • Commute to campus half as often as a traditional class.
  • Enjoy regular social interactions with instructors and other learners.
  • Enjoy the convenience of doing about half your work online, any time of day.
  • Reach the same learning outcomes and get the same credit as traditional courses.

Hybrid courses work best for students who:

  • Want to come to campus on fewer days of the week.
  • Enjoy active face-to-face involvement with an instructor in a classroom.
  • Are able to work independently online for a significant part of the course, but also want or need the in-class interaction.
  • Have decent computer skills and access to the internet and computer equipment.
  • Read and write at a college level.

Tips for Hybrid success:

  • Attend and participate actively in all in-class meetings.
  • Log in several times a week to participate actively in online discussions and projects.
  • Keep up with your assignments.
  • Apply your strong computer and internet use skills to your work.
