The Nuventive Solutions Assessment Management System (AMS) is Chesapeake College’s one-stop platform for organizing and managing all academic assessment activities. Faculty, program assessment liaisons, Chairs, and Deans use this tool to submit assessment reports, track student learning outcomes (SLOs), and collaborate on improvement plans. Additionally, Assessment Summary statements, are prepared by the Deans and Vice-Presidents and are collected in the Nuventive platform.

This page provides detailed tutorials and templates to guide you through the assessment process in Nuventive. Explore the step-by-step tutorials below for guidance on using the Nuventive system efficiently.

Course leads are populated into the Nuventive Solutions system, which sends out automatically generated emails to course leads.  Course Leads will receive one email per SLO from Nuventive. The instructions below will help course leads to complete the report in the system.  Remember, if you are not the course lead you may still be required to provide the assessment information and assignment to the course lead for the courses you are teaching.

Accessing your Reports

Nuventive Solutions now includes single sign-on at solutions.nuventive.com. Use your Chesapeake username and password to enter the system. You will be taken to a homepage with department dashboards. If you have pending assessment reports due, you will see a notice in the top right corner, ‘Go to My Assignments.’ Click on this to access your assignments page.

My Assignments

You should see the screen below when you go to your assignments page. Here you can see due dates, completion status, and SLOs. To begin reporting on a SLO, click the green arrow on the right side of the page.

Analysis Reporting

Work through the prompts, described below. If at any time you want to close and save your progress, click the ‘Save’ button at the top.

For each SLO, you must complete:

  • Aggregate Result and Overall Analysis Date: Date you begin report
  • Aggregate Result and Overall Analysis: This is a narrative that can be referred to later. Enter the result that reflects the aggregate (overall) of all sections including modalities (online, hybrid, and face to face) that were offered. This would be a good place to discuss any difference between sections that would not be captured based on modality. For instance, did you notice any difference between Fall and Spring this year? Were there differences by modality?
  • Related Documents: This is another required piece of the assessment process. Regardless of outcome, upload the tool/assignment used to assess the SLO. These documents can only be viewed by the uploader and the administrators in Nuventive and are stored securely. If a document is not uploaded, you will be receiving follow-up emails requesting this piece of evidence is provided. This a content area heavily monitored by Middle States.
  • Reporting Cycle: Select “Year – Semester”, of the current reporting semester.
  • Aggregate Result Conclusion- Select the appropriate option based on the results for the SLO.
    1. “Expectations Met” indicates 70% of students achieved a 70% or higher,
    2. “Expectations Not Met” indicates less than 70% of students achieved a 70% or higher”,
    3. “Mixed Results Based on Modality”needs to be used if there is a difference in performance based on modality (face to face vs online),
    4. “Not Assessed” should only be used if the course did not run
  • Assessment Type- Select the Assignment which best represents the tool used to measure the SLO. If multiple assessment tools were used, select ‘Other’.
  • Assessment Approach Description- Describe the tool or assignment used to measure student success on the SLO. If multiple assignments or tools were used, you can explain the differences (why were they used, which was better, any improvement needed, etc.).
  • # of Face-To-Face/Online/Hybrid Students Assessed: Fill out the appropriate fields based on modalities in which the course was taught. Only count the number of students who TOOK the assignment designed to measure performance of the SLO. If Susie Student is on your roster but never showed up or skipped assignments, she should NOT be counted in total number of students assessed.
  • # of Face-to-Face/Online/Hybrid Meeting Expectations- Of the number of students who TOOK the assessment, how many met the targeted expectations, in each modality the course was taught in.
  • Next Planned Assessment: Select the next planned reporting semester. It is strongly encouraged to report data at least twice in a five year cycle, especially given the seismic shift occurring within higher education and instruction modality. However, the requirements on reporting are:
    1. If the students did not meet expectations, you mustchoose another reporting semester to report the data within the next two academic years.
    2. If students Met Expectations, you may choose a reporting semester to report the data within the next five academic years.
  • Impacts of Previous Improvement Actions*: What improvement actions or changes were implemented and applied since the last reporting cycle? This could be a change in assessment tools, resource allocation, instruction methods, modality, or target measures. See the toggle below on viewing previous improvement actions for instructions on how to view.
    1. Example:In reading student responses, they liked the feedback on essays, but the same response needs to be provided on discussions also, particularly early in the semester. Also, offered more prompts/questions from which students could choose to respond on the final essay for the course which seemed to provide equitable opportunity for success.”
  • Improvement Action / Future Considerations: How will the results reported above be used for continuous improvement? How will this data be used for future considerations? This could be a change in assessment tools, resource allocation, instruction methods, modality, or target measures. If expectations were met, how will you improve upon your target measures?
    1. Example: “To improve overall course and fluidity of the transitions between assignments, genres, and time periods of the literary movements, I want to add short instructional introductions at the beginning of each weekly module. Also, add in discussion responses early in the semester when students are first engaging with online course and one another.”
  • Budget Impact: If an improvement action above has a budget impact that will require funds or other resources, describe them here with dollar amounts.
    1. Example: “Requires support for wrap-around services such as tutors and advisors.”

To submit your completed report, click on ‘Save & Submit’ at the top right.

  • Complete the above for every SLO scheduled for assessment reporting.

Nuventive Solutions now includes single sign-on at solutions.nuventive.com. You can use your Chesapeake username and password to enter the system. You will be taken to a homepage with department dashboards.

With this access, you can now access your departments’ previous assessment reports as well as filterable, visualized dashboards of assessment data findings.

On the homepage, you will see a dashboard of findings for your respective department. These are filterable by the slicers at the top (Course, Course Outcome Status, Reporting Cycle), as well as by clicking on individual fields within the graphs and displays.

Accessing previous semester reports

At the top left, the menu is accessible via a gray square with three lines:

In the menu dropdown, select the option for ‘Course Planning’.

On the Course Planning page, you can navigate courses using the dropdown ‘Select a Course’ prompt.  Under each course, you will find a list of its SLOs, along with their past and future planned assessment semester(s).  To view past reports on a SLO, click on the three dots at the top right of the SLO box and select ‘Open’ from the dropdown options.

Now you have arrived at the individual SLO Page.  Here you will see two tabs:

  1. Course Outcome: Here view the schedule for the SLO, as well as any pending assignments or SLOs which need assessment reporting, along with their due date.
  2. Results for Outcome: Here you can see all previous semesters’ reports submitted for a SLO. Again, you can click on the three vertical dots on the right, and select ‘Open’ from the dropdown options to open these reports.

Now you can view the specific, selected semester’s findings or Aggregate Result and Overall Analysis page. Here is where you can locate previous findings and improvement actions suggested.  You can use this information when writing your current report.

Download a Report on Previous Assessment Findings

In addition to viewing previous reports in the system, you can download a Word document version of all previously submitted reports.

At the top left, the menu is accessible via a gray square with three lines:

From the dropdown options, select ‘Printable Word Reports’, and then ‘Course Outcome Assessment All Data’.

A Word document should populate.  If there is a lag time, you can select ‘Refresh’ at the top right.  The Word document will include all years’ assessment reports for the department, listed alphabetically in order of courses and then student learning outcomes with each course.  You can download, save, and/or print copies of this report.  As new analysis reports are entered into the system, they will generate in this Word document.
