At Chesapeake College, we recognize that student success is a multidimensional outcome shaped by both academic and administrative processes. To support continuous improvement, we integrate administrative and co-curricular assessment data into our broader institutional effectiveness framework. This ensures that all units, from academic programs to administrative services, contribute to the college’s mission and strategic goals through evidence-based decision-making.

The Process

Administrative and co-curricular assessments are critical components of Chesapeake’s Continuous Improvement Agenda. Every year, five units under the Division of Student Success & Enrollment Management and five units under the Administrative Services Division prepare detailed assessment reports. These reports align with specific strategic planning objectives and institutional priorities. The data from these assessments inform key decisions regarding resource allocation, helping to ensure that Chesapeake’s institutional initiatives are effectively supported.

Tools for Assessment

Unlike academic assessments, which are managed within the Nuventive online Assessment Management System (AMS), administrative and co-curricular assessments currently use an external Nuventive-designed template. This template prompts each unit to systematically collect and report data on key assessment areas, ensuring a thorough and purposeful assessment process.

  • Administrative Divisions Annual Assessment Results and Recommendations Report

Division-Level Reporting

At the conclusion of each assessment cycle, the Vice Presidents of the two administrative divisions compile the Administrative Divisions Annual Assessment Results and Recommendations Report. These division-level summaries synthesize the unit-level assessment data, providing actionable insights into resource needs and institutional priorities. This process plays a critical role in advancing the college’s long-term institutional effectiveness strategies.

Planning, Assessment, and Budgeting Integration

Chesapeake College follows a comprehensive planning, assessment, and budgeting system that supports institutional renewal, student learning enhancement, and resource allocation. This system integrates long-term and short-term strategic planning with data-driven assessment activities across academic, co-curricular, and administrative levels. By using multiple data sources, this plan ensures institutional integrity and continuous improvement.

Student Achievement and Feedback

Chesapeake regularly reports on key student outcomes, including graduation rates, retention rates, and performance on professional licensing exams. These outcomes, along with feedback gathered through the Student Opinion Survey, are used to improve the student experience and inform decisions that enhance teaching and learning.

  • Student Opinion Survey: Conducted every semester through Watermarkâ„¢, this survey allows students to rate courses, instructors, and teaching methods. The feedback provided helps instructors and administrators refine their practices to better meet student needs.
