At Chesapeake College, institutional assessment is designed to answer a fundamental question: how well are we achieving our mission and goals? This process involves the systematic collection, review, and application of data from both academic programs and administrative/co-curricular support services, all aimed at driving continuous improvement. By fostering a college-wide culture of evidence-based decision-making, we ensure the ongoing enhancement of our programs, services, and support units.

Institutional assessment is embedded in Chesapeake’s Continuous Improvement Agenda/Cycle, an iterative, self-reinforcing process that drives the following key actions:

  • Annual Assessment Reports: Academic programs and support services prepare reports based on objectives aligned with Chesapeake’s strategic plan and institutional initiatives.
  • Synthesis and Recommendations: Deans and Vice Presidents compile these reports into College/Division-level Annual Assessment Results & Recommendation Reports, which identify resource and budgetary needs.
  • Resource Allocation: The Executive Cabinet (CCEC) and Budget Committee use these summative reports to guide resource allocation in support of institutional initiatives.

This integrated approach to institutional assessment brings together academic program evaluation and the assessment of administrative and support services, ensuring comprehensive and continuous improvement across the college.
